How to check the braking effect of car brake pads?

The brake effect inspection of brake pads is an important link to ensure driving safety. Here are some commonly used tests:

1. Feel the braking force

Operation method: Under normal driving conditions, feel the change of braking force by lightly stepping on and restepping on the brake pedal.

Judgment basis: If the brake pads are seriously worn, the braking effect will be affected, and more force or longer distance may be needed to stop the vehicle. Compared with the braking effect of a new car or just replaced the brake pads, if the brakes feel significantly softer or require a longer braking distance, then the brake pads may need to be replaced.

2. Check brake response time

How to do it: On a safe road, try an emergency braking test.

Judging basis: Observe the time required from pressing the brake pedal to the complete stop of the vehicle. If the reaction time is significantly longer, there may be a problem with the brake system, including serious brake pad wear, insufficient brake oil or brake disc wear.

3. Observe the state of the vehicle when braking

Operation method: During the braking process, pay attention to observe whether the vehicle has abnormal conditions such as partial braking, jitter or abnormal sound.

Judging basis: If the vehicle has a partial brake when braking (that is, the vehicle is offset to one side), it may be the brake pad wear is not uniform or the brake disc deformation; If the vehicle shakes when braking, it may be that the matching gap between the brake pad and the brake disc is too large or the brake disc is uneven; If the brake is accompanied by abnormal sound, especially the metal friction sound, it is likely that the brake pads have been worn.

4. Check brake pad thickness regularly

Operation method: Check the thickness of brake pads regularly, which can usually be measured by naked eye observation or using tools.

Judging basis: the thickness of the new brake pads is usually about 1.5 cm (there are also claims that the thickness of the new brake pads is about 5 cm, but it is necessary to pay attention to the unit difference and model difference here). If the thickness of the brake pads has been reduced to about one-third of the original (or according to the specific value in the vehicle instruction manual to judge), then the frequency of inspection should be increased, and be ready to replace the brake pads at any time.

5. Use device detection

Operation method: In the repair station or 4S shop, brake performance testing equipment can be used to test the brake pads and the entire brake system.

Judging basis: According to the test results of the equipment, you can accurately understand the wear of the brake pads, the flatness of the brake disc, the performance of the brake oil and the performance of the entire brake system. If the test results show that the brake pads are seriously worn or the brake system has other problems, it should be repaired or replaced in time.

To sum up, the inspection of the brake effect of the brake pads needs to consider a number of aspects, including feeling the brake force, checking the brake reaction time, observing the state of the vehicle when braking, regularly checking the thickness of the brake pads and using equipment detection. Through these methods, the problems existing in the braking system can be found in time and corresponding measures can be taken to deal with them, so as to ensure driving safety.
