After the sudden braking, in order to ensure the normal condition of the brake pads and ensure the safety of driving, we can check through the following steps:
The first step: Find a safe place to park, either on a flat road or in a parking lot. Turn off the engine and pull the handbrake to ensure that the vehicle is in a stable state.
Step 2: Open the door and prepare to check the brake pads. The brake pads may become very hot after braking sharply. Before checking, you need to make sure that the brake pads have cooled down to avoid burning your fingers.
Step 3: Start checking the front brake pads. Under normal circumstances, the front wheel brake pad wear is more obvious. First, verify that the vehicle is stopped and the front wheels are safely removed (usually using a jack to lift the car). Then, using the appropriate tool, such as a wrench or socket wrench, remove the fastening bolts from the brake pads. Carefully remove the brake pads from the brake calipers.
Step 4: Check the degree of wear of the brake pads. Look at the side of the brake pad, you can see the wear thickness of the brake pad. In general, the thickness of the new brake pads is about 10 mm. If the thickness of the brake pads has fallen below the manufacturer’s standard small indicator, then the brake pads need to be replaced.
Step 5: Check the surface state of the brake pads. Through observation and touch, you can determine whether the brake pad has cracks, uneven wear or surface wear. Normal brake pads should be flat and without cracks. If the brake pads have abnormal wear or cracks, then the brake pads also need to be replaced.
Step 6: Check the metal of the brake pads. Some advanced brake pads come with metal plates to give a warning sound when braking. Check for the presence of metal strips and their contact with brake pads. If the contact between the metal sheet and the brake pad is worn excessively, or the metal sheet is lost, then the brake pad needs to be replaced.
Step 7: Repeat the above steps to check the brake pads on the other side. Be sure to check the front and rear brake pads of the vehicle at the same time, as they may be worn to different degrees.
Step 8: If any abnormal situation is found during the inspection, it is recommended to immediately contact a professional auto repair technician or go to an auto repair shop to repair and replace the brake pads.
In general, after sudden braking, the condition of the brake pads may be affected to a certain extent. By regularly checking the wear and condition of the brake pads, the normal operation of the brake system can be ensured, thus ensuring the safety of driving.
